With 142.4 million followers on Tik Tok, Khaby Lame has now become the most followed tiktoker in the world. The overtaking on Charli D’Amelio (142.2 million) took place this morning.
The 22-year-old Senegalese creator who grew up in Chivasso, Turin, has become famous for his silent videos. From this morning Khaby Lame has overtaken D’Amelio, considered until recently the queen of the social network, and who together with her sister is at the head of an empire that makes tens of millions of dollars a year.
Khaby Lame’s popularity began in 2019 during the Covid pandemic. At that time she lived in the Borgo Sud Est neighborhood in Chivasso, in a public house: an ATC accommodation in via Togliatti. Here she lived until a year ago, when her popularity started to grow.
Milan, the solidarity of Khaby Lame: he delivers Christmas gifts to the homeless
Born in Dakar in Senegal, he started working as a CNC machine operator in a factory in Turin, before being fired in March 2020.
Fired and victim of the pandemic, he invented his silent videos for fun: being without words made those short and lightning-fast films universal, capable of making people of every nation smile. In a few months his humor, light and ironic, which made us remember the lightness and melancholy of Buster Keaton, managed to overcome the main Italian influencers, detaching millions of big fans like Chiara Ferragni and Gianluca Vacchi.
And so, what started as a game has turned into a more than profitable job. And the crowning of his irresistible rise of him, now coming from numbers, had been in the air for some time: at the Cannes Film Festival he was not casually named as a juror in the new section dedicated to tiktokers. He liked the red carpet so much that he announced a new venture: throwing himself into the cinema.
