Rais Aam Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board KH Miftachul Akhyar stated that he had sent a letter of resignation from the position of General Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). This was conveyed by Kiai Miftah when giving directions at the PBNU Syuriyah-Tanfidziyah Joint Meeting at Unusia Parung Campus, Bogor, West Java, Wednesday (9/3/2022) afternoon.
“At the time ahlul halli wal aqdi (Ahwa) The 34th NU congress approved my appointment as Rais Aam, there was a suggestion that I would not hold concurrent positions. I immediately answered sami’na wa atha’na (we listen and we obey). The answer is not because there is such a proposal, let alone pressure,” said Kiai Miftah.
Rais Syuriyah, the Regional Manager of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) East Java 2007-2015, then narrated the process of electing himself to be the General Chairman of MUI at the end of November 2020. Almost two years earlier, said Kiai Miftah, he had been seduced and convinced to become the General Chairman of MUI. “At first I objected, but then I was afraid to be the first to do so ‘bid’ah’ in NU. Because all this time Rais Aam PBNU has always served as the General Chair of the MUI,” he explained.
At this time, Kiai Miftah added, he felt ‘bid’ah’ it’s no longer there. So he is committed to realizing his promise before the Assembly ahlul halli wal aqdi by submitting his resignation from the position of General Chairperson of the MUI.
Confirmed separately, the Chairman of the MUI Organizational Development and Development Agency KH Salahuddin Al-Aiyub confirmed that his party had received the resignation letter. “Earlier this week, we received the letter. Furthermore, MUI will respond to the letter in accordance with the rules and regulations that apply internally to MUI,” he said.
In the same place, PBNU’s Katib Syuriyah who is also the Head of MUI for Fatwa, Asrorun Niam Sholeh stated that he highly respects Rais Aam’s decision and will consolidate it in the organizational rules at MUI. “As a student, I highly respect Kiai Miftah’s decision, and will consolidate it according to the organizational mechanism,” he said.
It is known, today, PBNU held a joint meeting to determine various work programs, discuss each board, and arrange the management of institutions, as well as the formation and preparation of three special bodies, namely the Organizational and Cadre Administration Development Agency, the International Network Development Agency, and Strategic Innovation Agency.
