New name, new course. After the acquisition by the KG Group, Ssangyong was renamed KGMobility in 2023, thus underlining a new phase for the Korean company. Founded in 1954 as Ha Dong-Hwan Motor, it was first renamed Shinjin Motor and then Dong-A Motor, before witnessing the third and longest name change in 1986, when it became Ssangyong, from the name of the group of the same name which had gained control. After other changes of ownership (Daewoo, Saic and Mahindra, in order) and a series of cars also appreciated in Europe, including the great Rexton, the company is now in the hands of the KG Group, the creator of a program to relaunch the former -Ssangyong which foresees new products and an increasing use of electrification. The Torres, which we have already driven, is the first new model from KGM, whose range also includes updated versions of already known cars, such as the restyled Tivoli and the Rexton, now with a redesigned interior. In Italy, where KGMobility cars are distributed by the Koelliker group, the LPG versions remain a staple, available for various models in the range, also in combination with four-wheel drive. We talk about it in more detail in our image gallery, where we have collected the KGM models currently available on the Italian market.
