The party lasted well past midnight. The major carnival event for the Kempen ladies is being organized by a small group of enthusiasts, the focus of which is a Kempen family: the married couple Gerda and Norbert van de Rydt with their daughter Judith. They founded the KG Narrenzunft in 2004 and are organizers of the annual Guard and Show Dance Festival in Grefrath-Oedt. In 2014 they organized a large meeting for the first time. They were so well received that in 2017 they held the first girls’ meeting in the Kolping House, which is now an integral part of Kempen’s carnival life. The preparations are demanding. “We are already planning for 2024 and 2025,” reports Norbert van de Rydt.
