KfW loans: CFOs still have that much buffer

Tui, K + S and Kion – these are just three of the best-known companies that use the aid loans from the state development bank KfW. In total, over 90,000 loan applications for a total volume of more than 56.7 billion euros had been received by KfW by the end of September. And KfW has delivered: According to the state development bank, around 85,900 applications with a volume of around 45.4 billion euros have been approved.

However, the CFOs must first submit the application for a loan to their house bank before it goes to KfW. FINANCE asked various banks about the status quo of “their” KfW loans. The first result is an interesting number: Commerzbank, DZ Bank, Deutsche Bank, Unicredit, DSGV, BayernLB, NordLB, LBBW and Helaba report a total of over 102,000 applications, most of them from SMEs. This implies that they did not even forward thousands of applications from their customers to KfW. For this purpose, 95 percent of the KfW loans were approved by the nine banks that made their data available to FINANCE.
