We know how difficult it will be, but we are well prepared.” They proved how good the Düsseldorf team are at the moment with a 2-0 win at Wuppertaler SV on Wednesday.

Of the long-term injured, Tom Fladung returned to team training on Thursday, but is not yet part of the squad. Shun Terada, who came on as a substitute against Fortuna Köln, has injured his ankle and is out. Abdul Fesenmeyer is injured but his coach is confident he can play. When asked why Charles Astina only had short assignments recently, Voigt replied: “He was out a long time and had problems with his pubic bone. You have to be careful to get it back under control. He has now been training with the team again for ten days without any problems. I’m glad he’s back. I hope he stays with us after the season. You also need experienced players in the team.”

When the catch-up game in Wuppertal is over on Wednesday, Voigt wants to push ahead with planning for the coming season: “Then we’ll talk to players with whom we haven’t talked about it yet. Then we will show our prospects and assess how willing we are. For him it is already clear that he will remain the coach of the KFC: “I’m involved in the planning, also for both leagues.”

It is clear that the squad in the new season will not look like it does now: “There are very clear statements from players who only see themselves in the regional league. That’s completely normal.” But they would like to keep the players who play a lot: “With the stadium and the environment, you also have an argument to play for a club in the premier league for a year.”

The anticipation of returning to the Grotenburg is great: “You can already tell that the players are talking more about it,” said the coach. He hopes to be able to train with his team on the new pitch in the venerable arena before the home game against VfB Homberg: “We have made a request to the city that we can train there twice next week, otherwise we’ll probably already be back an away game and the same requirements as Homberg.”
