Fast food is on every corner in the Czech Republic, especially in the capital. If we go to Wenceslas Square and its surroundings, we will not stop at the fingers of one hand when counting them all. Many of them have already become popular, McDonald’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) have been here for years.
KFC has been operating on the Czech market for almost thirty years. It started operations in 1994, when the first branch was opened in Vodičková street in Prague. Today it is one of the most widespread fast foods in our country. The operator is AmRest, which also manages Burger King, Pizza Hut and Starbucks cafes.
One of our readers has now shared his experience with KFC fast food. He sent us a picture of the food he bought at this chain and took home with him. It was a dish from KFC’s regular menu – Qurrito. The menu costs 171 crowns and is one of the most popular on the menu.
But the order was obviously not very successful. They saved a lot in the kitchen.
“I’ve kind of gotten used to KFC being ripped off. It happens quite often,” he wrote. “But I haven’t experienced this yet. One part was not filled at all, you can clearly see it in the photo I am attaching. The other pieces were not much better,” he continued.

We personally do not have much experience with this fast food. So we turned to an acquaintance of ours who worked here as a part-time worker about three years ago. We sent him the photo and asked if Kentucky Fried Chicken normally saves like this.
“No, on the contrary, I gave more. Especially to his friends when they came,” he revealed. He also said that he did not register that his co-workers at the time would save significantly on the filling of this particular tortilla, or other dishes.
But in the end he admitted that a large amount of ingredients were never added to the dish in question. “It’s true that there has always been little overall put into Qurrit. There are exact gram tables for this and there isn’t much in them either. But everyone drives by eye,” he told us.
According to him, in case of dissatisfaction, the customer could return the food. “Normally, we made a new one just fine, there was never a problem.”
Of course, this does not apply if you take the food with you and unwrap it at home.
Official inquiries to KFC have been unsuccessful.

At home?
Our reader mentioned that “Qurrito would rather do it at home next time, where he won’t be ripped off.”
We have tried this in the past as well. The recipe we tested is considered a KFC knockoff, it is very popular on the Internet. It can often be seen in short videos, for example on Instagram or TikTok, and there are many recipes for this dish on YouTube, and not only from foreign creators.
Its popularity is due to its simplicity. All you need for a Qurrito is a tortilla, chicken strips, cheese and barbeque sauce.
Strips are made from chicken fillets. For the coating, you need flour, breadcrumbs (many recipes include so-called panko breadcrumbs, we used crushed cornflakes) and an egg, or lukewarm water.
Spices are added to taste, you can experiment. We added thyme, smoked and hot pepper, chili, dried garlic, a little turmeric and a pinch of cinnamon to the flour.
The strips are then classically fried in oil. For a healthier option, however, the oven is also more than enough.
And when the main component, i.e. the strips, is ready, all you have to do is fill the tortilla. First we spread the barbeque sauce that you can buy in any supermarket, then we added grated cheddar and finally the strips. But of course you can put whatever you like in the tortilla.

Everything is then baked on a contact grill and it’s done.
We also found out how much we saved compared to fast food. We used a total of eight tortillas, one package of four pieces costs around thirty crowns in the cheaper version. Three quarters of a kilogram of chicken cost about 130 crowns. Barbeque sauce, enough for up to eight Quirrit, cost sixty. We also used two hundred grams of cheddar for over a hundred.
When we added spices and oil, we arrived at a sum of almost 400 crowns. One tortilla thus costs 50 kroner, and it follows that in this case cooking at home paid off. We did not take into account the time we devoted to preparation and cooking itself.
