The 1-1 draw against Fortuna Köln was the last home game before KFC Uerdingen returned to Grotenburg. Next up is the “piñata” Fortuna Düsseldorf II.
In the end, it was just ten minutes that decided that the KFC Uerdingen instead of the hoped-for three, he only took one point from the duel with Fortuna Köln. Because despite the leadership and passionate fight, the Krefeld team did not leave the pitch as winners. KFC coach Alexander Voigt was particularly annoyed that the avoidable late equalizer came about: “If Cologne had scored a great goal, then it should have been acknowledged. But the way the goal came about – that annoys me until I drop. It was totally unnecessary and we addressed such a situation beforehand.”
Due to the draw, the penultimate team from Krefeld missed catching up with the eighteenth team, Sportfreunde Lotte, with the same number of points. “It wasn’t a huge leap for the table. But for the inner workings of the team, it’s very important to take away the feeling that we can also tease one of the top five teams in the league. However, we can’t allow ourselves much more if we want to talk about anything again at all,” said Voigt, both happy and annoyed at the same time.
Next up for the KFC is the U23 from Fortuna Düsseldorf. The Rhinelanders are in the middle of the table, but have already shown one or two times this season that they also have the qualities to annoy teams from the top region of the table. The team of trainer Nicolas Michaty, who had already got an idea of the upcoming opponent from Krefeld in Velbert, only narrowly lost to top teams such as Preussen Münster or Rot-Weiss Oberhausen. Voigt is therefore preparing for a strong opponent, but also for possible surprises with regard to the Düsseldorf squad: “It always depends a bit on who you have with you. Who gives down the first or who comes up from the U19. It’s always a bit of a grab bag. This is generally the case with secondary representation.”
After the duel against Düsseldorf and another away game at Wuppertaler SV, KFC will return to its home country, the Grotenburg Stadium, after almost four years. The anticipation of the blue and reds is correspondingly high: “The place is outstanding. Nobody has played it in ages. In addition, the 2,000 spectators who are admitted. That can tickle out a few more percentages,” says Voigt happily.
