How to make young employees happy: salary and flexibility
The ISC Paris Groupa leading business and management school, publishes the 2nd edition of its barometer on the happiness at work of young people aged 18-24, in collaboration with the BVA Xsight research institute. This study examines young people’s perception of the professional world, their idea of the “dream job” and success in business.
Young employees are looking for a satisfying, well-paid job with a friendly atmosphere and the possibility of reconciling professional and personal life.
According to the barometer, remuneration remains a determining criterion for 44% of young peoplefollowed closely by the working atmosphere for 32% of them. Work-life balance is crucial, with 43% considering free time essential in their “dream job”.
53% of young people consider that promote the flexibility of hourlys is the best way for companies to enable employees to reconcile private and professional lives.
Nevertheless, 80% of young workers are satisfied with their work, in particular thanks to autonomy, a good atmosphere and positive relationships with their manager. Yet, 43% are not satisfied with their salary and just as many feel stressed at work, especially among the CSP+.
Only a quarter of young people managed to negotiate their salary upon hiring. A minority, or 14%, is considering an international career, while the public sector is less attractive and large French companies are less popular.
Small businesses, foreign multinationals in France and associations also struggle to attract young talent.

Young employees attach great importance to well-being at workl, with 86% saying that a successful company must ensure the well-being of its employees. This trend is increasing compared to previous years, when only 12% of young people were sensitive to this aspect.

On the other hand, societal commitments and the values of integrity and respect seem less of a priority for young people, with a significant drop in their plebiscite. Only 9% of respondents attach importance to social and environmental responsibility commitments.

The quest for meaning in work remains a marginal element for 33% of young people, compared to the priority given to personal well-being and the importance of free timehighlighted by 62% of them.
Et obtaining a permanent contract remains a priority for 57% of young people, although this proportion is down compared to previous years.
Gender equality: young women feel wronged
Young women express a strong sense ofinjustice in terms of remuneration and access to employment. According to 61% of young people questioned, salaries are not equivalent between men and women.
76% of young women believe that women receive lower pay for an equivalent position, while only 50% of young men are dissatisfied with their pay.
Regarding access to employmentonly 37% of young women believe that it is as easy for them as for men to find a position, and only 39% think that it is as easy for them to be hired on a permanent basis. The glass ceiling persists also, with 57% of young people believing that men are favored in access to positions of responsibility.
Young men are less aware of these inequalitieswith 50% believing that salaries are equivalent between men and women and 53% thinking that women can access the same positions of responsibility.
However, young people notice that certain sectors remain very genderedwith professions considered more accessible to men, such as finance, technology, engineering, manufacturing and management positions.
