Key Witness in Madeleine McCann Case Threatens to Withdraw Evidence – Case Falling Apart

German Helge Busching is to be the police’s key witness in the much talked about Madeleine McCann case. It was allegedly he who notified the authorities about Christian Brückner, who since 2020 has been suspected of having kidnapped the three-year-old girl back in 2007.

This summer, Busching gave an interview with German Bild, where he made a long series of allegations about the former comrade. Among other things, he admits that he committed petty crime with Brückner several times while they were both in Portugal.

Furthermore, he claims that the friend admitted that it was he who kidnapped Madeleine McCann.

“Explosive” revelation

– Threatens to quit

Now, however, the case seems to be falling apart, writes the British tabloid newspaper The Sunwho have spoken to sources close to German intelligence.

“Sources say their key witness is ‘flailing’ and threatening to stop helping,” they write.

– They say that Helge B is about to withdraw his evidence. He was paid a lot of money to repeat his explanation in a German newspaper, and now he is withdrawing. It shows the type of people you are dealing with, and their credibility as witnesses, says the source to The Sun.

It was in May 2007 that British Madeleine McCann disappeared from her hotel room in Praia da Luz, where she was on holiday with her family.

Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, were having dinner at a restaurant 55 meters from the hotel room. When they were to check the room at 10pm, the girl was gone. Her other two siblings were sleeping.

Since then, Portuguese and British authorities have been searching desperately for the perpetrator.

Being warned

“She didn’t scream”

Helge Busching lost contact with Brückner for a period, but they are said to have met by chance at a music festival in Spain in 2008. The two began talking about the McCann case, and how she disappeared without a trace.

– Christian had drunk two or three beers, and then he said: “She didn’t scream”.

– I thought: “He knows this. He has something to do with this.” He checked if I understood and then he left.

Helge Busching claims that he tried several times to notify the German and British police about Brückner and the video recordings, but that he was not heard. Neither the German police nor Scotland Yard have commented on these allegations.

The Madeleine McCann case: – More findings

– Absolutely safe

In 2017, Helge Busching had just been released from prison after serving a sentence in Greece, and he says that he once again contacted Scotland Yard to tip them off about Brückner.

Then he was heard, he claims. Scotland Yard has not confirmed that they have had contact with Helge Busching.

In 2020, German police announced that German Christian Brückner had been designated as the main suspect in the case.

From 1995 to 2007 Brückner lived in Portugal, and he was several times observed in Praia de Luz. He is a suspect because it is claimed his car was spotted in the area where McCann disappeared.

German authorities have previously stated that they are “absolutely certain” that Brückner is the man who abducted and killed McCann, but no charges have ever been brought against him.

He has always denied having been involved in the case.
