Kevin Schade is currently on everyone’s lips. The 19-year-old attacking player from SC Freiburg made his debut at the German U21s last week against Israel (3-2), which he immediately crowned with a goal. In his second international match against Hungary, he even scored twice in the German 5-1 win. In Freiburg they are already enthusiastic about the youngster, after he made his Bundesliga debut on the second match day of the new season against the favorites Borussia Dortmund and immediately impressed with his carefree and cheekiness. No soccer connection as a small child

Schade was born in Potsdam, at a soccer camp in the city he laced his soccer shoes for the first time at the age of seven. Matthias Boron, junior manager of the Potsdam club SV Babelsberg 03, remembers: “He had no soccer connection before. But he was really noticed at the camp. We then integrated him.”

A player with many qualities

Kevin Schade quickly stood out at his home club with his strong coordination skills and good comprehension. His talent was evident early on: “He’s an incredibly talented movement, an incredibly open-minded boy and eager to learn. It actually soon became clear that we wouldn’t be able to keep him here because he has too many good qualities that are interesting for other clubs “, explains Matthias Boron to SWR Sport. Despite his exceptional athletic quality and a lot of praise, Kevin Schade is known for his down-to-earth attitude and a high level of self-reflection. He is not one of those who want to constantly play in the foreground. His homeland plays an important role for him. In his spare time, he goes to see his youth club games, says Boron.

Already successful in the semi-professional area

After strong performances at Energie Cottbus, the second stop in his career, SC Freiburg became aware of the young talent and brought him to the U19 in 2018. Parallel to his appearances in the club, Schade also celebrated his debut for the U18 of the German national team at the age of 17. Kevin Schade convinced and continued to play in the professional field. With Freiburg II he became Regionalliga Südwest-Champion in the 2020/2021 season and helped to move up to the 3rd division with strong performances. For the new season, head coach Christian Streich nominated him for the professional squad and used the opportunity in the first game to showcase his qualities.

A successful professional debut with a lot of praise

Kevin Schade then got his big chance against BVB when Streich took Roland Sallai off the field in the 71st minute and brought the youngster. Schade created a new dynamic within the Dortmund half with a certain cheek. Up to the eighth day of the game, the top talent made three more appearances.

Coach Streich is full of praise for his new protégé: “A self-confident, young guy. He is very good at jumping and has a really good header game.
