Will Leroy Sané be the difference player for the German national team at the European Championships?
The offensive star of FC Bayern has outstanding skills and can decide games on his own, even at the highest level. In the preparation for the tournament, however, he is not yet completely convincing. In the penultimate test match before the European Championship against Denmark, he was even loudly ruffled by his teammate Joshua Kimmich.
The right address for the 25-year-old?
“I know Leroy and I know who he is,” said Kevin-Prince Boateng in an interview with the Picture on sunday. You have to know how to “deal with the boys”, explained the professional, who will appear at the EM as a TV expert on the ARD.
There are players, “you have to hit it. Others you have to stroke. And there are others again, for whom you have to be a father figure. If Leroy looks like he’s listless, then maybe something is wrong.” Boateng therefore recommends “sitting down with him and asking what the problem is instead of hitting it. He really is a player who can decide a game on his own.”

Kimmich, who Boateng thinks big, now has to learn “how he has to tackle every single player. Being a leader is good, hitting it is good, but you also have to know how to take everyone with you, that makes the real leader out.” Kimmich, who, like Sané, plays for Bayern, will learn this because he is an intelligent player: “And he’s already doing it very, very well.”
He is astonished that national coach Joachim Löw is going into the tournament without his half-brother Jérôme. “He must have thought something about it, but of course it comes as a surprise as Jérôme has been the most consistent central defender all season – and the best for me too. Maybe Löw trusts the others more.”

Boateng: Farewell to Löw could be a problem
In general, however, he always considers the DFB team to be a promising candidate at major tournaments. The “back and forth” with Löw – who will resign after the EM – is certainly a problem. “It’s not always easy to cope with something like that. But for me the Germans will always be a favorite,” said Boateng.
In the group phase, the German team becomes world champion (Boateng: “France is the ultimate for me at the European Championships. If they don’t stand in the way, they walk through to the final. They just have too much quality”) and also meet Portugal .
