Veteran Outfielder Kevin Pillar Eyes Return for 2025
Despite previously indicating that retirement loomed, veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar is now expressing interest in playing another season in Major League Baseball.
Pillar, who turns 36 in January, started the 2024 season with the Chicago White Sox where he struggled at the plate. After being released in April, he caught on with the Los Angeles Angels, where he enjoyed a resurgence. “For the first time in probably forever, I was just playing for the love of the game, the joy of the game,” Pillar shared in a recent interview with MLB Network’s “Hot Stove”. “I wasn’t worried about tomorrow, the next day, my future. And I found a lot of success in that.”
This newfound joy on the field has fueled his desire to continue playing.
"I’m pretty sure I still want to play," Pillar confided. He acknowledges that a roster spot isn’t guaranteed, but he plans to stay in peak shape and be available if a team comes calling.
Pillar did undergo thumb surgery at the conclusion of the 2024 season, but he indicates the procedure is not impacting his preparations for the upcoming season.
Known for his strong defense and base-running ability, Pillar has been a solid contributor throughout his career. While his offensive numbers have dipped in recent years, he still brings valuable experience and versatility to a team. He’s historically performed better against left-handed pitching, making him a potential asset for teams needing a right-handed bat off the bench.
Speak it into existence! 🙏

With several teams looking for outfield depth, Pillar could find himself a valuable piece as Spring Training approaches.
Pillar joins a crop of veteran outfielders, including Teoscar Hernández, Tyler O’Neill, Randal Grichuk, Ramón Laureano, Austin Hays, and Tommy Pham, who are all seeking new opportunities for the 2025 season.
