Kevin Monahan was found guilty of killing Kaylin Gillis, a 20-year-old young man with his shotgun, who was in a car that took a wrong turn in a residential area of Washington County in northern New York.
Gillis was traveling in the front passenger seat of a Ford Explorer pickup truck with three other people looking for a residential address in the town of Hebron on the night of April 15, 2023. Her boyfriend, who was driving the vehicle, turned down the wrong road before hitting He realized the mistake and tried to back up in front of a house. But as they were leaving, the owner Monahan came out to the porch and fired a shotgun twice at the car, hitting the young woman.

During the trial the defense argued unsuccessfully that the shooting was an accident caused by a defective weapon. The jury returned its verdict after less than an hour of deliberating. Monahan was also convicted of reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence. His sentence is now pending.
Andrew Gillis, the victim’s father, said that last year He hoped that his daughter’s murderer would “die in prison,” reported New York Post.
In a similar case, two weeks before Gillis’ death, a Bronx (NYC) teacher was fatally shot inside her car with her child on board on Long Island. Police believe she was a random victim of a gang shooting. Three young people have been arrested in the case, including a minor.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Young people, many of them minors, are protagonists in armed violence in New York as victims and perpetratorsparticularly shootings and knife attacks, including in and around schools.
