Kevin McCarthy has released his deck of speaker in the early hours of this Saturday in Washington, in the morning on the Spanish mainland. McCarthy gave his first speech of the legislature in which he defined his priorities with a hardly compatible mix of calls for unity and promises of tough opposition to the government of Joe Biden. Visibly pleased with his heartbreaking date, he said: “I hope one thing is clear after this week: I never give up.”
As he left the Capitol, in front of the press, the new Speaker of the House thanked Donald Trump above all for his support. The rebels who had initially ignored the former president’s request to support McCarthy ended up facilitating his nomination. In photographs and television images from this Friday evening, Marjorie Taylor-Greene, one of the former president’s closest congressmen, is seen handing her phone to one of the rebel members, which bears the initials DT (for Donald Trump) . To get the job you had to make numerous concessions to hardliners in your party and your first speech indicates a fierce opposition agenda.
McCarthy alluded to the investigative commissions asking for responsibility from the Washington “swamp” on the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, on the origins of covid and on the alleged use of the FBI as a political weapon, referring to the chronicle of Donald Trump’s villa in Mar -a-Lago, Florida for illegally stealing secret documents from the White House. He promised to use “the power of subpoenas” for those investigations.
“We are committed to ending Washington’s waste to drive down the price of food, gas, cars, housing and stem the rise of the national debt. We are committed to cutting regulatory burdens, reducing energy costs for households and creating good-paying jobs for workers,” he continued as he outlined his agenda.
He announced that the first bill will be to eliminate funding to the IRS to hire 87,000 new employees, as part of the Biden-sponsored Reduction of Inflation Act. “We will pass bills to fix the nation and its challenges of the wide open southern border and to end the indoctrination woke up [por progresista] in our schools,” he continued, exposing his programme. One of her first appearances will focus on the southern border, due to what she calls “a crisis of security and sovereignty”. “We have to protect our borders,” she said.
He will also propose the creation of a commission on China to recover the jobs he says have gone to that country and win the economic competition against the emerging power.

Open doors
McCarthy, who recalled being the son of a firefighter and grandson of immigrants, assured that he will open the Chamber to citizens: “I want to make a personal invitation to all Americans. You are welcome to view our work. The doors will no longer be closed. The debates will be open so that they can witness what is happening in the Casa del Pueblo. From the committee rooms to this chamber.”
He told House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, “I promise our debates will be passionate, but they will never be personal.” And though he laid out that starkly opposing agenda, he appealed to Lincoln’s spirit to call for unity: “I will work with everyone who shares our passion to deliver a better future for the nation. I hope you will join me as a Congress. We can only work if we work together.”
After his speech, he took the oath and the rest of the representatives took it. The relatives of the deputies were present (the children had already been seen in the Chamber since Tuesday, since it is customary for them to present their parental oath) and he apologized to them: “I knew it would take a couple more days. I’ll be honest, it’s not how I planned it.”
