Despite the expectation that Kevin Durant’s arrival at the Phoenix Suns has generated for the rest of the 2022-23 NBA season, things have not gone entirely well for the veteran in his new team, playing only three matches before suffering an unfortunate injury in a warm-up session on March 8.
As was well recorded by fans who watched Durant practice ahead of the matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the 34-year-old landed awkwardly after a layup and immediately showed signs of pain in his left ankle.
Initially the reports did not make it clear what type of injury ‘KD’ had, even speculating that it could end his regular season. However, it is a sprain that does not imply greater severity, for which the Suns medical staff announced that he will be off the courts for between two and three weeks, when he will be reevaluated again, revealed Bleacher report.
In this order of ideas Durant would lose between 7 and 11 games, among which stand out duels against the Golden State Warriors (March 13), the Milwaukee Bucks (March 14), the Philadelphia 76ers (March 25), the Denver Nuggets (March 31) and the Los Angeles Lakers (March 22).
Phoenix sits fourth in the Western Conference and they’ll need to rack up multiple wins if they hope to move higher in the overall standings, but at least stay at a similar winning percentage to guarantee a playoff berth.
