Yesterday 15:02 – Exclusives reveal Saudi clubs’ plans for a mammoth £2bn summer shopping spree, including star names such as Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah. Although Jordan Henderson’s winter departure has unexpectedly affected the league, the Saudi dealmakers remain committed and believe in the success of the long-term project.
The Saudi Pro League is gearing up for an unprecedented summer shopping spree that could completely change the dynamics of football in the region. With £2billion planned to spend in the transfer market, clubs have ambitious targets, including signing star players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah. Sports journalist Ben Jacobs came up with this information.
While Jordan Henderson’s winter transfer has left question marks, the Saudi dealmakers remain calm and firmly believe in the long-term success of the project. Last summer, Saudi clubs spent £750m on transfers, and an even higher figure is expected this year if any of the big-name signings can be landed.
Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah
The two most prominent targets are Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. While De Bruyne is under contract until 2025, he is expected to cost more than £100m. Salah remains a stable fixture at Liverpool, but despite being the subject of a £150million bid last summer, it is uncertain whether he will move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
The Saudi league are also interested in other big names, including Thiago Alcantara, Victor Osimhen and Son Heung-min. The rules for the upcoming season will allow 10 foreigners to be registered, which will increase the focus on younger talent.
