Kevin Costner and the Last Surviving Untouchable: The Secrets Behind “The Untouchables”

Santo Domingo RD (By Andrés Díaz)- To play the character of Eliot Ness in the film “The Untouchables” (1987) by director Brian De Palma, Kevin Costner received the important help of Albert H. Wolff, the last survivor of the authentic Untouchables.

In 1929, Eliot Ness, a 26-year-old “Prohibition” agent, obtained permission to form a small squad, 10 to 15 honest men who would work to crush the Capone gang.

Albert H. Wolff had been assigned to the unit and got to know Ness very well. He would recall that Ness “was a somewhat passive guy.”

He even claimed that he had more experience in law enforcement.

Costner’s prominence was supported by a luxury cast made up of: Sean Connery, Andy García, Charles Martin Smith and a brilliant Robert De Niro playing Al Capone.

The formula for success is completed with the exuberant and beautiful music of Ennio Morricone (Remember that powerful intro music?).

The film was a box office success and was nominated for four Academy Awards, of which Sean Connery received one for best supporting actor.

Needless to say, we loved it.
