Keukenhof gets ambassador to his knees | Stan Huygens Journal

Hoekstra, together with Keukenhof director Bart Siemerink, planted tulip bulbs with the appropriate name American Dream. Together they look ahead to a blossoming spring of 2021 in which visitors will hopefully be able to return to the park. This year the park remained closed and no one could enjoy the flowers. You plant flower bulbs from about mid-September to mid-December before frost.

Many Americans visit Keukenhof every year. The question is whether that will also be possible next year. According to the ambassador, that depends on the developments of the corona virus and any travel restrictions. The ambassador and his wife Diane are lovers of Keukenhof and regular visitors to the park.

“My wife and I were scheduled to receive guests from the US almost every week last spring, all of whom were very much looking forward to going to Keukenhof,” Hoekstra said. “Unfortunately things turned out differently, but I hope they can still come next spring. Then we will be proud of the American Dreamtulips we helped plant. ”

Keukenhof expects for next year that visitors will mainly come from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. In 2019, more than 150,000 visitors came from the United States. Keukenhof will be open in 2021 from March 20 to May 9.
