Keukenhof and Rotary plants End Polio Now tulip

Rotarians Gerda Schukking and Pieter Gaillard, together with Bart Siemerink, have planted the tulip End Polio Now in Keukenhof. During World Polio Day on October 24, attention will be drawn to the worldwide polio vaccination program. Rotary clubs throughout the Netherlands sell the ‘End Polio Now’ tulip bulbs. The proceeds will go to the vaccination program.

Keukenhof and Rotary together against polio

Keukenhof is happy to support the Rotary’s sales campaign. In addition to planting in Keukenhof, local Rotarians have also planted tulip bulbs in other places in the Netherlands. For example, they draw attention to the fight against polio. With the tulip sales campaign, the Dutch Rotarians raised more than 360,000 euros in 2019.

End Polio Now

End Polio Now is an action to rid the world of poliomyelitis, also known as childhood paralysis. Polio can be prevented by preventive vaccination and good hygiene. Since 1988 (the start of the World Health Organization campaign) the number of polio incidents has already fallen by 99%.

Unfortunately, the disease is still not under control in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The goal of a polio-free world is expected to be achieved within a few years.
