Ketikoti, the day of commemoration and celebration of the abolition of slavery, was officially added to the Intangible Heritage Inventory of the Netherlands on Saturday. This was done on the recommendation of the National Institute for the History of Slavery and Heritage (NiNsee).
The certificate was signed on Saturday in the City Archives in Amsterdam by NiNsee director Urwin Vyent and by NiNsee chairman Linda Nooitmeer. Addition to the inventory should “help practitioners keep their intangible heritage alive” and promote “the visibility and discussion of the heritage”.
Ketikoti has been in the Canon of the Netherlands since 2020, the fifty windows with important historical events for the Netherlands.
In addition to Ketikoti, eight new subjects have been added to the list of intangible heritage this year. These include milk can shooting in Kampen, Twente krentenwegge and Gregorian chants, performed by the Nijmegen choir Karolus Magnus.
