“Kertajati Airport in West Java Set to Replace Husein Sastranegara as Aviation Center: Infrastructure Readiness and Plans”

Kertajati Airport in Majalengka will replace the role of Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, as the aviation center in West Java. Kertajati Airport was previously said to have been in suspended animation.

Regarding this plan, how is the infrastructure readiness for Kertajati Airport? Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati said that her party was now preparing supporting infrastructure.

The things that have been prepared include road access, lodging, and transportation to support Kertajati Airport. For road access, said Adita, there will be the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road.

“Clearly the supporting infrastructure is the toll road. Cisumdawu has been made even though it was only functional yesterday’s Eid. We’ll see when the Ministry of Public Works and Housing will also be operational. It’s not yet a commercial operation, it’s still functional,” he said when met at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Rabh ( 24/5/2023).

Meanwhile, for transportation, there are travel and DAMRI buses. Adita said they stated their commitment to supporting connectivity with other modes of transportation. If the number of passengers increases, the number of transportation will also be increased.

For lodging accommodations, Adita hopes that the local government can play a more active role in attracting private investors. Moreover, the available land in the area is still very wide.

Regarding when Kertajati Airport will replace Husein Airport, Adita cannot be sure. Even though the Cisumdawu toll road has started to operate, said Adita, there are still other considerations that need to be prepared.

“Cisumdawu operates, it’s not certain that it will automatically move right away. This is all talk of airport operations, right? It’s a different matter from supporting infrastructure. The hope is that it can be aligned on time,” he explained.

There are a number of options regarding the transfer of the role of this airport. For example, regular aircraft will operate at Kertajati Airport, while private jets will operate at Husein Sastranegara Airport.

“It could be like that later, private jets or chartered planes in Husein, while regular and large-bodied planes in Kertajati, those are several scheme options. What will it look like, of course the results of the talks,” he concluded.
