LOS ANGELES (AP) – Clayton Kershaw hit two career strikeout marks and kept Arizona blank until the sixth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 5-1 on Thursday night for their fifth straight win.
With eight fanned out in six innings without conceding a score, Kershaw (5-1) became the 39th pitcher in major league history to hit 2,500 when he eliminated Nick Ahmed in the second. The left-hander then overtook and overtook Christy Mathewson (2,502) to take 38th place in the all-time standings by fanning Carson Kelly and Tim Locastro in third.
AJ Pollock hit a pinch home run and Mookie Betts hit an RBI single in the seventh for the Dodgers, who have the best 29-10 record in the competition and have won 18 of their last 21 games. Corey Seager had three hits for Los Angeles, which has a 10-game winning streak at Dodger Stadium after sweeping the series with Arizona.
Kershaw, who hasn’t had a hitless outing since 2014, allowed three to reach but didn’t give up his first hit until Christian Walker grounded out to shortstop with two outs in the sixth inning.
Luke Weaver (1-6) took the loss after allowing four hits and two hits at the plate in a 5 1/3 innings.
For the Diamondbacks, the Venezuelan David Peralta 3-0.
For the Dodgers, Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández 4-2, with one scored and one produced.
