Thiruvananthapuram ∙ Central government’s Arogya Manthan 2023 award to Kerala for providing the most free treatment in the country. Karunya Arogya Suraksha Yojana (Casp) bagged the best performing state award for highest scheme utilization. The National Health Authority of the Central Government announced the Arogya Manthan Awards in connection with the annual celebrations of ABPMJAY (Ayushman Bharat).
The awards were given in two categories: the state which has provided the most treatment in the country through the ABPMJAY scheme and ‘best activities’ for the services specially provided for the visually impaired beneficiaries of the scheme. This is the third time in a row that this government has won the award in the category of the state that provided the most treatment in the country.
Health Minister Veena George said that the government’s policy is health care for all. The aim of the government is to provide free treatment to as many people as possible. The minister said that this award is also a recognition of the efforts and activities of the state government to ensure the treatment of poor patients despite financial constraints.
In the last two years in the state, more than 3200 crores worth of free treatment has been provided through schemes including Karunya Arogya Suraksha Yojana. About 13 lakh beneficiaries have been treated through the CASP scheme in the last two years through about 30 lakh claims. The state received only Rs 151 crore as central share in this item last year. The rest of the cost is borne by the state government. Of the 42 lakh beneficiaries currently covered under CASP, more than 20 lakh are fully state-funded. The scheme is implemented in the state through the State Health Agency under the Department of Health.
