Kerala rain warning: Alert for two districts today; Widespread rain warning as low pressure strengthens

Rain warning for two areas in the state today. Currently, a yellow alert has been announced for the next five days. But the situation is likely to worsen as the low pressure strengthens.

The Central Meteorological Department has announced a yellow warning in several areas.

A yellow alert has been announced in the areas. Isolated heavy rain is expected. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

A trough of low pressure has formed from the south coast of Gujarat to the south coast of Kerala. A strong low pressure is located over Southeast Uttar Pradesh and Northeast Madhya Pradesh. It is likely to move westward and strengthen as a low pressure over West Madhya Pradesh by August 26. Then it is likely to move to Rajasthan and Gujarat region. A cyclone formed over the North Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a low pressure during the next 48 hours. Due to this, there is a possibility of moderate/moderate widespread rains in Kerala for the next 5 days with heavy rainfall at isolated places till August 28, the Central Meteorological Department informs.

Fishermen beware
The Central Meteorological Department has announced that there is no restriction on fishing on the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts, and that you should not go fishing on the Karnataka coast.

Strong winds with a gust of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional to 55 kmph are likely to prevail over South Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea, Gulf of Mannar, South Tamil Nadu coast and adjoining Kanyakumari district. Fishing is not allowed in these areas on the above dates
