Kerala Kaumudi Chief Editor calls for caste census to end century-long injustice in Aruvipuram

Aruvipuram: Kerala Kaumudi Chief Editor Deepu Ravi has demanded that the state government be ready for a caste census to end the century-long injustice. Deepu Ravi was delivering the keynote address at the 136th Aruvipuram Pratishtha Annual Conference.

There is no accounting of which communities and sub-castes the 45 percent Hindus belong to. If the data is not submitted to the Supreme Court, the Ezhava community may even lose the reservation they are getting now.

All the great civilizations of the world have been formed in river basins. Sree Narayana Gurudeva started a great culture of dharma at Aruvipuram. Guru’s dream was a peaceful land where everyone lived as brothers. It is yet to be achieved. It has to go through many changes. This platform is being used to present an important issue to the Chief Minister and the state government as it is a good ground to initiate changes.

In modern times, everything is decided on the basis of accurate statistics. The most valuable commodity today is data. Unfortunately this weapon has not been recovered today.

For the last 93 years, the census of the Ezhava and Theiya sections has not been taken. Kerala Kaumudi has pointed out this in a speech the other day. If you ask how many people there are, it will remain an unanswered question. Don’t we have a right to know how many of us there are? It is important to know how many of us are educated and how many lack it. It can be solved only by knowing it.

At least some in power assume that if a prominent community is ignored for long periods of time without taking them into account, they need nothing else to perish and fail to do so from time to time. Minorities and Scheduled Tribes get an accurate estimate of their population every ten years. The remaining 45 percent of Hindus, including the Ezhas, do not have an account of which communities and sub-castes they belong to. Pinarayi Vijayan, one of the strongest Chief Ministers in India in terms of performance, should take steps to end this injustice. Deepuravi also said that he hopes that there will be action from the government led by him.
