“Kerala Government Faces Financial Burden as 10,000 Employees Retire This Month”

Thiruvananthapuram ∙ This month’s collective retirement of employees has become a huge burden for the government facing a serious financial crisis. About ten thousand people are retiring this month, including those who are going to retire in the next 2 days. Out of the total of 21,537 people retiring this year, half of them will have to pay more than 1,000 crore rupees as retirement benefits in one month. Keeping this in mind, the government will borrow at least Rs 2,000 crore from the public market next month. A special permission of the Finance Department has also been imposed to exchange bills above Rs 25 lakh.

The mass retirement came this month because earlier the practice of recording the date of birth in May to ensure school admission in June. 15 lakhs to 80 lakhs each as retirement benefit depending on the post. The pension benefits are Gratuity, Terminal Surrender, Pension Commutation, PF, State Life Insurance, Group Insurance etc. No matter how much economic crisis there is, the government does not withhold pension benefits.

However, there is a strong allegation that the government is not making any significant intervention to fill the 10,000 vacancies due to retirement. When the school is about to open the next day, in many places temporary teachers are appointed to replace those who have retired. The reason is that vacancies are not properly reported. Due to this, many people are rejected before the expiry of the rank list.

Pension age for 1.67 lakh people is 60

Thiruvananthapuram ∙ 1.67 lakh state government employees who have raised 60 years as pension age. These are the people under the participation pension scheme. There are a total of 5.25 lakh government employees in Kerala. Participatory pension scheme was implemented in the state in 2013. About 200 people who were appointed as temporary employees and later got permanent appointments have retired under the Participatory Pension Scheme. Many of them get a monthly pension of less than Rs 2000 as their service period is short.
