In the end, Kerala Blasters won. The Blazers had to wait until the seventh game in the league table to secure a win. The Horns were on the mend with three draws and three defeats. The win against Hyderabad on Sunday was the result of coach Kibu Vikuna’s decision not to look back. Vikuna made five changes to the starting lineup.
Did not play foreign players
Notably, foreign centerbacks Bakari Connie and Costa Hamonesu were left out. Instead, Sandeep Singh and Abdul Haque joined the defense. Rohit Kumar, Gary Hooper and Saytyasen Singh were replaced by Sahal Abdul Samad, Jordan Murray and Jackson Singh in the starting line-up. This change has been beneficial.

Abdul Haque and Jordan Murray scored for the Blazers. As a defensive midfielder, Jackson Singh had a great performance. When Sandeep Singh cleared all the dangerous crossballs, Huck scored a header in the first half to give the hosts the lead. Huck, who played 90 minutes, filled the field with eighteen passes, four tackles and nine clearances. Interestingly, the goal was scored once – and it turned into a goal!

Sahal could not overtake Hyderabad’s right back Ashish Rai. Jordan Murray broke through the defense only once and sent the ball into the back of the net. The Blazers are ninth with six points from seven games. Hyderabad are eighth with nine points. If they had won, they would have reached the top four.

The only setback for Hyderabad was the mistakes made by lone striker Aridan Santana. Yasir’s delivery in the 22nd minute gave the Spanish striker a golden opportunity. But the finish was a big mistake. Coach Kibu Vikuna tested Sahal on the left wing for the Blasters. Position that does not yield to Sahal at all. Its discomfort was evident in the performance.
