Keolis trains people who are out of work in its trades

“Working to take others to and from work. This is the mission of the public transport company Keolis Thionville-Fensch on the Citéline bus network. Between 40 and 60 positions are available in different fields in 2023. An offer which is explained by the shortage of drivers for several months and by the recruitment difficulties linked to competition from Luxembourg and the constraints of the profession. “We have been working for a year on a partnership with Rémelange Services to train people far from employment in our trades. It can be a mechanic, driver, gas station attendant, reception staff, cleaning, maintenance of green spaces,” explains Laurent Tonon, director of Keolis Thionville-Fensch.

“Two people have already benefited from this association and are now drivers-receivers. A third is in immersion to see what this job actually consists of, ”says Khaled Benouadah, the director of Rémelange Services.

The two structures wish to offer employment “in short circuit”, that is to say that the workplace is close to the place of residence of the employee. “At Keolis, 60% of our employees come from Val de Fensch and Portes de France,” says Laurent Tonon. His counterpart from Rémelange Services adds that one of the two Keolis employees from his association comes to work by bike.

No question of failing. The director of Rémelange Services wishes to send only motivated people. “We will seek, among the people we take care of, those whose professional project can correspond with a job at Keolis. We are going to work on this project. They will come for immersion days in the company to see the reality of the job. If it suits, they will start to form. Throughout this time, we continue to support them on administrative issues and their social issues. We prefer that a person finds the path to employment in a sustainable way rather than making volume for our statistics, ”assures Khaled Benouadah. Eventually, people in reintegration will be able to obtain a full-time permanent contract with the public transport company.

But driving a bus can scare a person away from work, explains the director of Rémelange Services. “These are people who don’t necessarily have self-confidence and don’t respect themselves. So when they are offered to drive a bus, to be responsible for lives, including those of children and expensive equipment, many panic. Hence the importance of “accompaniment from Keolis and Rémelange Services throughout the integration process,” adds Laurent Tonon. The salaried person with us is not stigmatized. She becomes an employee like the others. »

Before driving, people undergoing reintegration must pass a specific permit and take part in various training courses. The whole thing lasts between two and three months, and costs between 5,000 and 10,000 euros. The amount is often entirely covered by Pôle emploi.
