Tirop had stab wounds in her stomach when she was found, KTN News reports.
“Kenya has lost a jewel that was one of the fastest rising stars on the athletics scene,” the Kenyan Athletics Federation wrote in a statement.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of the 10,000 meter bronze medalist Agnes Tirop.”
According to the statement, the union is working to find out more information about what happened, but there are suspicions that Tirop was stabbed to death by her husband, writes AP.
Tirop became 2015 the next youngest gold medalist at the Terrain World Championships ever.
She ran her first World Athletics Championships 2017 in London. Then she finished as a bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters. She also took bronze in the World Cup in Doha 2019.
The Kenyan was in Sweden in 2019 and competed at the Diamond League gala in Stockholm. Then she won 5,000 meters.
Agnes Tirop impressed in 2021. She came fourth in the 5,000 meters at the Olympics in Tokyo this summer and just a month ago she broke the world record in the ten kilometers of country road for women when she ran in the time 30.01 in Germany.
