CHICAGO. Kenyan runner Kelvin Kiptum set a new world record at the Chicago Marathon.
The twenty-three-year-old athlete clocked a time of 2:00:35 hours, surpassing last year’s record of compatriot Eliud Kipchoge. He achieved a performance of 2:01:09 h at the Berlin Marathon last year.
Kiptum has won all three marathons in which he has started so far. In December, he triumphed on his first try in Valencia and in April he won in London.
“I’m very happy, I wasn’t ready for this. I knew I had a record for this event, but not the world record,” AFP quoted the runner as saying.

In Chicago, the world record fell for the third time in history and for the first time since the triumph of Moroccan Khalid Khannochi in 1999.
The maximum race was held by another Kenyan, Dennis Kimetto, who won in 2013 with a time of 2:03:45.
