Nairobi: The bodies of 58 people were found in the Shakahola forest in eastern Kenya. The bodies of those who starved and fasted in the belief that they would go to heaven were found. The bodies were found in the Shakahola forest near the national park of Malindi. Police arrested Paul Mackenzie Nthenge, who got salvation by forming a fellowship called Good News International Church and advised him to starve to death to face his creator. The search for more bodies is on.
Police say some of Ntenga’s devotees may still be hiding in the bush around Shakahola. The dead bodies were found in 800 acres of forest land. The police said that many people were rescued from here and admitted to the hospital. The Kenyan Red Cross, a human rights organization, reported 112 people missing.
Kenyan President William Ruto has said that such religious organizations will be eliminated. Ruto said there is no difference between rogue pastors like Nthenge and terrorists. Terrorists use religion to further their heinous acts. People like Nthenge use religion for such things’ said William Ruto.
Nthenge has been arrested twice before. Nthenge was arrested last month and in 2019. Last month’s arrest was in the case of two children dying of starvation. In the absence of clear evidence, the case did not proceed.
