Kentucky US Destroyed by Tornado, Biden Sets State of Emergency

Jakarta

Kentucky Territory, United States of America declared a state of emergency after the tornado hit. At least 100 people are feared dead in the incident which destroyed facilities.

“Before midnight I had announced an emergency,” said Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, as reported by AFP and Reuters on Sunday (12/12/2021)

Beshear said the batch of tornadoes was the most destructive in the state’s history. He said about 40 workers had been rescued at the wax factory in the town of Mayfield, where there were still about 110 people trapped in the rubble. It has declared a state of emergency.

“The devastation was unlike anything I’ve seen in my life and I find it hard to put into words,” Beshear told a news conference. “Most likely more than 100 people are missing here in Kentucky.”

To ensure residents have usable drinking water, Beshear said “two tractor-trailers filled with water” were headed to Mayfield.

President Joe Biden has also approved the declaration of a state of emergency. He also ordered federal aid to Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Biden also called this tornado disaster the largest in history.

“One of the largest tornado outbreaks in our history,” said Joe Biden.

Biden called this a tragedy. He is worried that the number of victims will continue to grow.

“This is a tragedy. And we still don’t know how many lives were lost and the extent of the total damage,” he said in televised comments, pledging federal aid for the five storm-damaged states.
