Keno Marley got the worst in his second fight in Tokyo Olympics. After the victory against the Chinese Daxiang Chen, the 21-year-old Brazilian lost in the quarterfinals to the British Benjamin Whittaker this Friday (30) and is out of competition in boxing under 81kg.
Upon leaving the ring, the 21-year-old from Bahia, who was defeated by the judges’ decision, said he believes the result was fair, acknowledging that he made some mistakes.
“I made some mistakes in some moments of the fight, that resulted in the result of my defeat. I’m happy with my performance,” he said.
“In terms of the result, it is the most complicated, we have to analyze. We cannot judge the judges. If I hadn’t made the mistakes, I would have won. I think the result is fair, only after evaluation can I say if there was any kind of injustice.” , completed.
After analyzing his participation in the Olympic Games, the fighter was confident for the next challenges: “They were minimalist mistakes such as striking distance. We have a lot to develop. There’s the Military Worlds, the Boxing Worlds and Paris-24. just 21 years old, time to work and a couple of Olympics ahead,” he declared.
If he continued in the tournament, the silver winner at the Pan de Lima would already guarantee a medal. It is noteworthy that in the modality there is no fight for third place – the two defeated in the semifinals get the bronze.
The fight
The first round was well balanced and studied between the two. Keno landed good punches, had a good movement and was very comfortable. The British opponent also risked some attacks. In the decision, the referees gave victory to Whittaker 3-2.
The second round was balanced between the two. Three judges tied, and the other two gave one to each side, leaving the decision to the last round.
In the final three minutes, Keno looked for more fight and managed to land some blows. Whittaker showed fatigue, which gave the 21-year-old Bahian freedom to control his actions better. Even so, the Brit won.
