Kenneth Taylor’s Missed Opportunities and Return to Form: Ajax vs. Olympique Marseille

Kenneth Taylor thought he would give Ajax the victory with his goal against Olympique Marseille (3-3), but the French still saw a point from Amsterdam. Afterwards, the midfielder was disappointed with his missed opportunities.

Ajax coach Maurice Steijn told the press conference afterwards that of all the chances the team from Amsterdam had, he had counted five from Taylor. The midfielder used only one of these, giving Ajax a 3-2 lead just after halftime on a pass from star Carlos Forbs.

But he also left three unused. Ajax gave away the victory and so Taylor was disappointed with his missed opportunities. “I could have scored a hat-trick,” the midfielder said at the press conference afterwards. “That 3-2 was important, but the other chances should have been included as well.”

Already in the first half, Taylor had a great opportunity, which he killed. Teammate Brian Brobbey asked for the ball, but didn’t get it. “Brian scolded me for that. He was angry. But I really didn’t see him standing there. Otherwise I would have given the ball, Brian knows that too,” Taylor said, laughing.

Taylor suffered from France-out

The 21-year-old Alkmaarder was back in the starting line-up against Marseille, after he disappeared after the first league match against Heracles (4-1 win). It was a setback for Taylor, for whom things looked very different in March this year. At the time, he started in the starting line-up for the Dutch national team against France (4-0 defeat).

But in that match, Taylor played poorly and was substituted after just 33 minutes. Taylor says he suffered from that blow. “That hurt. Although I am also realistic. In football you don’t have time to think about it and you have to move on. I think it has only made me stronger.”

In any case, with his good performance against Marseille, he seems to have firmly established himself in the starting line-up for the team from Amsterdam. Therefore, a starting spot also beckons in De Klassieker against Feyenoord on Sunday. “Hopefully I showed it today.”
