“I can’t miss your fortieth birthday, can I?” Stanley says beaming to his birthday son, after he sings the Surinamese birthday song I hear you friary sings.
After the surprise party in De Koning, father and son have a good conversation on the couch while enjoying a glass of whisky. “I should have been there for you then, with your leg,” says Stanley, referring to Bing’s leg amputation two years ago. “I haven’t exactly been an ideal father to you. You’re doing a lot better, son. It’s no use to you now, of course, but I’m incredibly proud of you.”
You can watch the return of Kenneth, aka Stanley, below:
Kenneth Herdigein first appeared in 2006 in GTST. At that moment, Dorothea, Bing’s mother, is about to marry Jef. But Stanley still hopes to get back together with his son’s mother and tries to win her back. In vain.
Two years later, in 2008, Stanley makes his comeback, only to leave a year later. He goes to work on a cruise ship. Now, no less than fifteen years later, the fun letter is back. The monthly trailer recently showed that it seems that he is also here for love. You might almost forget, but Stanley has a short-lived fling with Laura (Jette van der Meij). Is he here to win her back and does that mean a mess with Henk (Johnny Kraaijkamp jr.)?
GTST can be seen every Monday to Friday on RTL 4 and can be viewed ahead at Videoland.
