Kendrick Lamar ends Shaboozey’s Billboard no. 1 streak

Kendrick Lamar Dominates Charts, Leaving Shaboozey’s Record Dreams on Hold

Rising country-rap star Shaboozey saw his record-breaking run come to an abrupt end this week, thanks to a monumental chart sweep by Kendrick Lamar.

Shaboozey’s catchy Southern anthem, "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," had been holding strong at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive 19 weeks. It was a historic run, putting him alongside chart titans like Lil Nas X and vying for a potential record-breaking streak only held by Mariah Carey.

But Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album, GNX, upended the charts, pushing everyone else aside. This week, Lamar claimed the top five spots, a feat accomplished previously by only Drake, Taylor Swift, and The Beatles.

"“Not Like Us” rapper completely swept this week’s top five, with “Squabble Up,” “TV Off” (feat. Lefty Gunplay), “Luther” (feat. SZA), “Wacced Out Murals,” and “Hey Now” (feat. Dody6) respectively," the article reads.

Shaboozey’s dream run ended at number six this week, a solid performance despite being edged out by the unstoppable Lamar. Adding to his dominance, Lamar’s "Squabble Up" earned him his third number-one single this year, cementing the Compton rapper’s standing as the top artist of 2024 so far. With three number-one hits under his belt, Lamar breaks the record for chart-topping singles in 2024.

Lamar’s success this week wasn’t limited to the top five. Two more tracks from GNX, “Reincarnated” and “Man At The Garden”, landed at number eight and nine, respectively, bringing Lamar’s total number of top ten hits to a staggering 22.

The only artists who could penetrate Lamar’s stranglehold on this week’s charts were Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars with their enduring hit "Die With A Smile," and Mariah Carey, the undisputed “Queen of Christmas," with her perennial holiday favorite, "All I Want For Christmas Is You."

Shaboozey might have regretted not hitting the number one record this week, but even had he achieved it, the looming shadow of Mariah Carey’s seasonal anthem likely would have snatched it away as the temperature dropped and holiday cheer began to spread.
