Hensley stood at the birth of Uriah Heep, who were famous in the 1970s. In February 1970, he became a member of the band Spice, in which he played guitar Mick Box and sang David Byron. On the cover of the original release of the album, Hensley claimed to have written it Lady In Black inspired by a real incident when he was depressed by the pastor’s daughter, and the meeting eventually gave birth to a text about the fact that evil cannot be defeated by evil. However, he later stated in an interview that he had never met the girl who inspired him, he could only see her through the window of the hotel room.

Hensley recorded thirteen studio albums with Uriah Heep between 1970 and 1980. The last was Conquest, which came out at a time when the band’s fame was declining, peaked in the first half of the 1970s, when David Byron sang in it.
