After Ken Block officially announced two months ago that he was a free agent after a nearly 11-year partnership with Ford Performance, the pilot said what he will do this year. Although the brand is not very well known in the US, Block decided to bet on the Skoda Fabia R5 +, which he describes as a beast.
This definition is appropriate for the Fabia, according to him, since the car is the most successful in the R5 category with 1170 international victories. The rally driver also mentions that the Skoda is quite similar to the Fiesta R5 with which he won one of his last races in Barbados and this is another reason why it is his choice.
There is no mention of the technical specifications of the car, and most likely they will differ from those approved by the FIA, as the American Rally Association (ARA) is not guided by the decisions of the FIA.
However, we will mention the specifications of the Fabia. It leaves the factory with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a maximum power of 290 horsepower and a maximum torque of 425 Newton meters. The drive is on all four wheels and the gearbox is a sequential manual with 5 gears. We’ll probably see some changes, but we’ll find out more in the coming weeks when Ken Block and Alex Gesomino take part in their first official race with the new machine.
