The matador”, Mario Alberto Kempes, continues to add honors to a long list of tributes that have come throughout his life for everything he did as a soccer player.
The Bell Ville native, who started in Institute and also wore the River Plate jersey, owns the name of the Mario Kempes Stadium in Córdoba, something that makes him proud and excited.
The striker who was world champion with the Argentine team in 1978 is a great idol in Spain, for his time at Valencia.
And this Tuesday, news about it arrived from Spanish lands.
Is that Kempes was chosen as the top idol in the history of Valencia, in a vote in which more than 100,000 fans participated, with 53 percent of the votes.
Mario beat striker David Villa in the final, who added 47 percent of the vote.
Kempes, currently 65 and a columnist for the sports signal ESPN, arrived in Valencia in 1976 from Rosario Central.
He played in that club until 1981 and then returned to the country to play for River. Again it would land in Valencia between 1982 until 1984.
In total, he scored 149 goals in 246 games, with an average of 0.61 goals per game.
Kempes was declared in 2013 as the Valencia World Ambassador.
