Kemenristek Supports Herbs to Become Immunomodulators to Recover Covid-19 Patients Without Symptoms

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chairman of the Research and Innovation Consortium Covid-19 Ministry of Research and Technology / National Research and Innovation Agency Ali Ghufron hopes for a cure herbal can be an imonumodulator to increase endurance in Covid-19 patients, especially for people without symptoms (OTG).

Ali said this via teleconference during a discussion at Graha BNPB, Jakarta, Tuesday (18/8/2020).

However, Ali said there was herbal medicine which is claimed to be a drug that can cure Covid-19 patients.

In fact, he said, there are types of herbal medicines that must undergo clinical trials if they are to be called Covid-19 drug.

Herbal medicineAccording to Ali, it is divided into three types, namely herbal medicine, standardized herbal medicine (OHT), and vitopharmaca or herbal medicine whose safety has been proven through clinical trials.

“So there are three (types of herbal medicine), (types) of vitopharmaca must go through clinical trials,” he said.

“Well, this is what often apologizes for not having done a clinical trial, then he claims that this could be specifically for immunomodulators for covid,” said Ali.

Previously reported, Deputy for Supervision of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements and Cosmetics of BPOM Maya Gustina Andarini reminded that herbal medicines still have to pass various regulations to be claimed to treat a disease.

One of the most important steps to take is clinical trials.

“For an herbal medicine to be claimed, it can treat any disease. It can be circulated there must be rules,” Maya said in a press conference, Monday (10/8/2020).

“Because these patients are human. Humans must pay attention to their rights when we carry out clinical trials on them. We cannot just find, claim, let alone say that thousands of patients have already done it,” he said.
