Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) put forward two important roles of basic immunization in providing optimal protection for children.
“Basic immunization has two important roles, firstly, to provide protection against infectious diseases for individuals or individuals, secondly, to provide protection or immunity to groups,” Assistant Deputy for Disease Control and Management of the Coordinating Ministry for PMK, Nancy Dian Anggraeni, contacted in Jakarta, Sunday.
Nancy Dian Anggraeni explained that individual immunity is needed so that a child can optimally grow and develop into qualified and competitive human resources.
Meanwhile, herd immunity, he said, is very important for efforts to control or stop the transmission of infectious diseases in the community.

“Group immunization is also effective in providing protection to certain vulnerable groups, who, due to illness, allergies or decreased immunity, cannot get immunizations,” he said.
For this reason, the Coordinating Ministry for PMK invites all parties, from ministries/agencies, regional governments, to the community, to continue to make various strategic efforts to increase basic immunization coverage.
“Socialization and education regarding basic immunization must continue to be intensified, the public needs to be constantly reminded of the importance of basic immunization, what immunizations must be completed, when is the immunization schedule, and various other information related to immunization,” he said.
The Coordinating Ministry for PMK, he said, also requested that regional governments continue to monitor and ensure an increase in basic immunization coverage in their respective areas.
“Local governments also need to embrace all stakeholders in their respective regions so that they can always play an active role in increasing immunization coverage and making efforts to stop the transmission of infectious diseases,” he said.
Meanwhile, Expert Staff for Sustainable Development at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK Agus Suprapto explained that low vaccination coverage could increase the risk of spreading a very dangerous virus.
“Basic immunization is very useful for protecting children from various diseases that can be prevented by vaccination, for example polio, diphtheria, measles, rubella, hepatitis B and various other diseases,” he said.*
