El point guard Kemba Walker dio la summer surprise by making the leap to Europe and signing for AS Monaco instead of looking for a job in the NBA as a substitute in one of the franchises contending for the championship.
Now, the former Hornets, Celtics, Knicks and Mavericks revealed in an interview with the website of the French team that he does not see an immediate return to the NBA as feasible since he is excited about the opportunity that he has to play in the next Euroleague.
“I’m not sure, I mean, the NBA is the goal, but I’ve played there for many years,” Walker said when asked if he’d return to the NBA. “For now, I am focused on my new adventure, the experience that awaits me with the new life that I will have. I am excited and looking forward to taking this opportunity in Monaco.”
Among Walker’s new teammates will be Mike James, Alpha Diallo and Donta Hall, whom he considered good players. Also, Shabazz Nappier, who was a teammate of Kemba at the University of Connecticut, explained a little about European basketball.

Multiple injuries, mainly to the knee, have meant that Walker has only played 89 games in the last three NBA seasons. However, the point guard declared that Monaco made him feel valuable and that motivated him to sign with the French team.
“The club was interested in me and I just wanted to be in a team that loved me, that believed in me,” Walker said. “I saw that the managers felt that I can take them to another level, that’s what convinced me to join Monaco.”
During his career in the NBA, Walker was a four-time All-Star and in the 2018-19 season he was part of the third best five in the league. He posted lifetime averages of 19.3 points, 5.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
