Kemba Walker was recently thrown out of rotation at the New York Knicks. It is completely unclear whether the point guard can fight back one more time. Walker himself now commented on the situation in his hometown for the first time.
“I would love to be on the field,” said Walker after a training session on Monday. “Something like this has never happened to me in my career, but I have respect for Coach Thibs and his decision,” said the point guard. “It may not have been an easy decision, but he made it and I have to live with it now.”
Walker started the first 18 games of the season for the Knicks, but the playmaker has not been used in the last four games. Walker moved from the Oklahoma City Thunder to his hometown New York before the season and signed with the Knicks for two years and a total of $ 18 million.
The four-time all-star now wants to continue to behave professionally and support the team. “For me it was always about the team. If the coach thinks that this measure will help the team, then that’s the way it is. I just want my teammates to know that I’m always there for them.”
On the other hand, Walker did not want to comment on questions about his future in New York or elsewhere. “I could be angry, but we have young players here who look up to me. (…) I hope that I can set an example for them in this situation.”
After two injury-ridden seasons with the Boston Celtics, Walker wanted to start his career again in New York. But the reality is different. An average of 11.7 points in 24.5 minutes are both career lows for Walker.
