Kelsey Mitchell finished 5th in the keirin at the Roubaix Worlds, Lauriane Genest 10th

Canada’s Kelsey Mitchell finished 5th in the keirin at the World Track Cycling Championships in Roubaix, France on Sunday.

Germany’s Lea Sophie Friedrich triumphed in 11.189 seconds, followed in order by Japanese Mina Sato and Russian Cycling Federation athlete Yana Tyshchenko.

Friedrich, 21, won her third gold after the team speed and the 500m throw.

American Madalyn Godby finished just ahead of the podium, just ahead of Mitchell of Brandon, Man.

For her part, Montrealer Lauriane Genest finished 10th in the competition.

On Saturday, Mitchell beat Genest for bronze in the women’s sprint, Canada’s only medal at these worlds.

Meanwhile, Maggie Coles-Lyster of Maple Ridge, BC, finished 12th in the points race.

On the men’s side, Canadian Nick Wammes was stopped in the round of 16 of the sprint by Pole Rudyk Mateusz.
