Large uterus
Kelly finds it difficult that it happened this way. “This is not the way it should be. As a mother you want to experience your child’s first moments, but we were both asleep. Fortunately, Enya woke up after a few minutes, but only when the anesthesia had worn off did I enter the bedroom. Fortunately, she was lying there with her daddy.”
How come the girl was so active? “I probably have a large uterus. Enya was quite big, more than 4 kilos, but she had plenty of space.”

While Kelly is recovering, her father-in-law dies a day after birth. “That was tough, especially for my friend. He was extremely conflicted. He wanted to be there for his family, but also for his mother and the rest of the family. Because I was still recovering, I couldn’t support him as well as I would have liked. Luckily we had a wonderful maternity nurse and lovely friends who helped enormously. I don’t know how we would have gotten through this time otherwise.”
Processing process
The birth continues to keep her busy. “I felt like my body had let me down. It felt like I had failed. But through conversations with the gynecologist I was able to give it a place. She assured me that I could not have done anything about it, that it could not have been done differently. If I had kept up, I would have felt everything. I wouldn’t have wanted that.”
Moreover, Enya is doing well. “I was able to enjoy my girl intensely for six months and developed a good bond with her. That makes everything okay.” The baby is now 6.5 months old. “I just started working again, so we still have to find a rhythm and are still searching, but we will certainly succeed.”
