PHOENIX (AP) – Merrill Kelly pitched seven solid innings, Pavin Smith and Josh Reddick hit home runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Thursday night.
Arizona snapped a four-game losing streak and a nine-trip streak against San Francisco.
Kelly (5-7) allowed three touchdowns and seven hits, fanned seven and did not walk. He has won his last three starts, which coincided with the Diamondbacks’ only three wins in 27 dates.
The right-hander snapped Arizona’s 17-game losing streak with a win over the Brewers and set the club, and MLB, record for 24 road losses by beating the Padres.
Mexican Diamondbacks reliever Joakim Soria struck out Darin Ruf for his first save of the season.
Johnny Cueto (6-4) took the loss for San Francisco, which led to his fourth trip, his worst run of the season. The Dominican worked five episodes in which he gave up five plate appearances and six hits. In addition, he gave two passports and fanned five.
