Just months after her departure from the series, Kelli Giddish will return to her role as Amanda Rollins in the season 24 finale of “SVU”. And she’s not going to come empty-handed…
Several months after filming her last episode of New York Special Unit, Kelli Giddish is about to make her comeback in the detective series created by Dick Wolf. Last August, the actress who played the investigator Amanda Rollins announced her decision to leave the procedural after more than 11 years in the skin of her character.
It is in the final episode of season 24 of New York Special Unit, which is also the final episode of season 3 of New York Organized Crimes that Kelli Giddish will resume her role. And that’s not all: according to information from TVLineAmanda Rollins will be pregnant.
In episode 9 of season 24, his last as a regular, the character played by Kelli Giddish married assistant district attorney Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) in an improvised ceremony at the courthouse.
After this ceremony, Amanda Rollins resolved a final investigation with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) before announcing to her that she wanted to leave her post at the Special Unit to become a professor at Fordham.
“Rollins had a happy ending, which is rare”, Kelli Giddish told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “It’s a huge legacy. Viewers will not remember her for the horrific way she was murdered. They will just remember that this character went through many hardships but got a happy ending.”
During her departure, the actress had however left the door open to a possible return of her character in the series. “She’s still in New York“, she had explained. “I loved working with the New York SVU teams and I know they think the same of me. So if my return sticks in a plot, I think the public would be happy to see that.”
Note that NBC renewed this weekend New York Special Unit, as well as New York Judicial Police and New York Organized Crimes for additional seasons. The series led by Mariska Hargitay will therefore begin its season 25 at the start of the next school year.
