Kelemen Hunor warned of the advance of an “anti-Hungarian, anti-Semitic and anti-democratic” extremist political force in Romania in his speech as a guest at the year-end event of the American Hungarian Coalition on Friday. He said the Russian-Ukrainian war in the “periphery” had created fears that were thought to be outdated.
For now, the threat posed by extremists is not visible on the “radar” of the United States, because the “big picture” can be seen from across the ocean: mainstream political parties that share Western values, he said.
Kelemen Hunor and the delegation of the RMDSZ, organized by the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation, met with congressional representatives and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during their several-day visit to Washington, as well as visited important American analytical institutes. During the negotiations, American decision-makers were asked to warn Romanian decision-makers about the importance of respecting minority rights, Kelemen Hunor said, adding that in Romania they pay attention to what is said in Washington.
