German cyclist Emanuel Buchmann will present himself at the Tour de France in the Bora-Hansgrohe team as a backup rider for the overall standings and support for the Dutchman Wilc Kelderman.
This was confirmed by the manager of Ralph Denk for the German media and he added that he would also take two sprinters to the Tour de France – the Slovak leader Petr Sagan will be complemented by the announced German Pascal Ackermann. In a challenging sprint competition, Sagan will try to attack the record eighth green jersey for the winner of the scoring competition.
Buchmann recently fought for the top five in the overall classification at the Giro d’Italia, but after falling in the 15th stage, he had to withdraw from the race with suspicion of concussion and bruises on his face, side and knees. By the beginning of the Tour de France, however, it should be 100% in order. He was already fourth in the most famous stage races in 2019, which is why Denk decided to take him to the team.

“My fall on Gire had a bitter taste because I felt solid form. I want to get together as soon as possible, which is why I joined the others at the Bora-Hansgrohe training camp in Livigno. My knee is already in order and I am ready to help my colleagues on the Tour de France. However, I do not feel for the overall ranking this time. Wilco will be a team leader and I will take it day after day and try to help him as much as possible in the hills, “ stated Emanuel Buchmann on the web cyclingnews.com.
Ralph Denk expects a determined performance in the hills from Buchmann. “The overall profile does not suit him this year. If he gets in shape, I would like him to show an attractive driving style with enough risk. We want to show ourselves to German fans, ” stated think.
The Tour de France will start this year on June 26 in Breste, Brittany. The initial two stages with a finish in Landerneau and Mur-de-Bretagne have a wavy profile and will appeal more to classicists and equestrian universals. Purebred sprinters should get the word out in the next two stages to Pontiva and Fougéres.
